Or might you be able to say this?
‘I learnt as much as I could, about what was really going on.
‘I looked up what the Sustainable Development Goals (“the SDGs”) were all about and picked three that I wanted to go deeper into;
‘I signed up to receive a daily email from “Ecowatch” and started listening to podcasts and Ted Talks and reading articles on Social and Environmental issues – and started to share good ones with our family and friends and people at work – and I read Professor Yuval Harari’s books, as a good starting point.”
‘Your dad and I spoke to each other about what else we could do. So we agreed on several ways we could try to “stop being part of the problem” and change our lives. And we made a start:
‘And as part of Dad’s personal “give back” – for having been asleep at the wheel for the last 30 years on the state of the world – we each volunteered one day a week each to help to fight two causes that matter to us (as examples…‘How to reduce Human Trafficking’ and ‘Rewilding the countryside.’)
‘And now we only vote for candidates that are clean and green who put the planet and people first and I send them requests for what we need to do more of – and less of. That’s what I did.”
It feels so great when you actually do something. And you meet more and more interesting people while you are doing it. You realise there is so much that can be done by people. You can’t leave CHANGE to governments or companies, any more than you can leave parenting to teachers. It’s OUR JOB too, isn’t it?
